The Birth of Fingertip Art

  In 2008, the “Fingertip Art” female handcraft employment supporting plan was jointly launched by Sichuan Provincial Women's Federation, Chengdu Municipal Women's Federation and Aba Prefectural Women's Federation in the severely afflicted areas such as Wenchuan and Dujiangyan. It aims to stimulate the micro economy in the Jiuzhaigou area and to preserve local material culture by providing local women embroidery training. The Fingertip Art orders embroidery products from those well-trained women to increase their income, so that they are able to obtain flexible employment without leaving home and reconstruct their family after the earthquake. So far, more than 20000 women have participated in the plan, and the number of stay-at-home children and empty-nest elderly has been prominently reduced.
